Introduce some of our familiar products.

The most familiar product is the water level sensor. Our water level sensors are installed in water heaters (electric water heaters, gas water heaters, etc.) and detect the amount of hot water (water level) in the bathtub with high accuracy.

Electronic water meters are using our AMR sensors. When water flows (using water), the impeller inside the water meter rotates. The magnet rotates as the impeller rotates. Our AMR sensor detects the rotation of this magnet.

In the infrastructure market, our AMR sensors are also installed in diaphragm intelligent gas meters. Since water meters and diaphragm intelligent gas meters are driven by small batteries, they are required to operate with ultra-low current consumption.

Our AMR sensor is the best solution for such low current consumption applications.

What is a sensor?

A sensor is a device that converts changes in natural phenomena and physical and chemical phenomena such as sound, light, temperature, pressure, vibration, magnetism, distance, and current into electrical signals and outputs them,

instead of the five human senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch)

Sensors are used not only in the FA (Factory Automation) industry but also in various industries and fields. Especially in recent years, with the development of IoT, the demand for sensors has increased, and the position of sensors has become important. Sensors are necessary for the maintenance and development of our current life.

Connect technologies

Now that everything in the world is connected to the Internet, the role of sensors will grow. Also, in terms of SDGs, the demand for sensors is increasing for the purpose of “energy saving” and “energy monitoring”. We are also developing and improving our sensors so that they can respond to the movements of the world.

Kinds of Sensor

There are many kinds of sensor, depending on the medium to be detected and the application.

There are various sensors for the same detection medium, so it is important to select the most suitable sensor according to accuracy, purpose, usage, structure, etc. We develop and manufacture analog AMR sensors and pressure sensors.

What is a magnetic sensor?

A magnetic sensor is an electronic component that converts the magnitude/variation of a magnetic field generated by a magnet to an electrical signal.

Even in environments where light and infrared rays sensors are blocked by dirt, dust, water droplets, etc., the magnetic field is not affected, so it can be used in factories and around water.

Like the earth’s magnetic field (geomagnetism) and magnets, magnetic fields are invisible but very familiar. Research has been conducted for many years on magnetic sensors that convert invisible magnetic fields into visible electric signals. Kohden has a lineup of AMR sensors that use the magnetoresistive effect, in which the resistance value changes with the strength of the magnetic field.

What is a pressure sensor?

A pressure sensor is an electronic component that senses the pressure applied to a gas or liquid and converts its magnitude into an electrical signal.

There are many examples of pressure around us, such as high/low pressure in weather forecasts, and blood pressure in health checkups. Compressed air is sometimes used instead of motors for opening and closing doors and driving robots, so the sensed pressure can be used to control operations. Kohden has a lineup of semiconductor pressure sensors that detect relative pressure (gauge pressure) based on standards such as atmospheric pressure.

Applications of pressure sensors

We manufacture semiconductor pressure sensors for gage pressure, which are strain gauges formed on Si materials. The package of the pressure sensor element is mainly made of plastic, and is widely used in water heaters, air conditioners, air pressure gauges, sphygmomanometers, and EFIs (electronically controlled fuel injection systems)

consumer

Water heater, air conditioner, washing machine, dishwasher, Vacuum cleaner

What is a water level sensor?

It was developed to detect the water level of water heaters, and is able to detect the water level and water pressure of tap water, hot water, etc.
