FAQ

AMR sensor

What is the difference between AMR sensor and hall element.

Please check the table below.

AMR Hall
Material Ferromagnetic thin film metal Semiconductor
Operating principle Magnetoresistive effect Hall effect
Magnetic sensing direction Horizontal (parallel) magnetic field change with relative to the sensor film Magnetic field change perpendicular to the element chip
N/S discrimination Not possible alone Possible
Input resistance Several tens of Ω to several tens of kΩ (Depends on chip size. Customizable) Several 100 Ω to 1 kΩ
Output voltage Saturates around 4kA/m Almost linear output
How should the AMR sensor be driven?

Constant voltage source, constant current source, intermittent drive power supply can be used within the rated range.

When driving an AMR element, which is better, constant current drive or constant voltage drive?

Constant current drive is ideal for canceling temperature characteristics.

How is the response frequency of the AMR sensor.

It is about 400 kHz.

Can you provide it as a module?

We can customize it according to the customer’s request. We can handle everything from design to manufacturing, even for small lots.
* However, it is limited to Japan.

How is temperature characteristics?

The resistance value, output voltage, and midpoint potential fluctuate change as the temperature change. See the product datasheet for details.

What is the storage/use temperature range?

As an approximate number
Flip chip product: Storage range -40 to 100°C Operating range -30 to 90°C
Mold PKG product: Storage range -50 to 130°C Operating range -40 to 125°C
See the product datasheet for details.

How is the sensor output? Also do you need amplification?

When Vcc=5V, the output is about 40mV in saturation magnetic field.
See the magnetic field strength-output voltage characteristic curve in the product datasheet. Provide an amplifier circuit if necessary.

How is the maximum input voltage?

Although it depends on the element, it will be less than 10V.
See the product datasheet for details.

Can an AMR sensor be used as a geomagnetic sensor?

Our AMR sensor is suitable for detecting magnetic fields of more than 10mT, and is not suitable for detecting weak magnetic fields such as geomagnetism.

How to find the current consumption of the AMR sensor.

The current consumption of the AMR sensor = the voltage applied to the sensor element / the input resistance value of the sensor element.
